News Groups, Mail Lists, Forums and Chat Channels
- Crohn's &
Me is a large forum that has general information about Crohn's
disease, patient stories, as well as information about living with
the disease. It's sponsored by UCB, Inc., which is part of UCB Pharma,
which is part of UCB Group, which is part of BioSpace, which appears to be
a Belgian pharmaceutical conglomerate. (Not that that's a bad thing.)
Among lots of other stuff, you can find Ally's Tips on how to live well despite the problems
associated with CD, and Dr.
Rubin's Q&A, several pages of information about CD, including diet,
causes, treatments, etc.
- International Crohn's Disease Meetup
Day is a site designed to facilitate meeting up face-to-face with other local people
dealing with Crohn's Disease, ulcerative
colitis and IBS. Trade diet advice, share experiences, offer support and
make new friends. The idea is that there will be meetings on the first
Wednesday of every month.
- The TalkIBS forum, and its sister
site, HablaIBS, are endorsed by the
Society for Women's Health Research, and provide information about
Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
- The
Crohn's Info and Help Forum is now alive on Delphi. Hosted by Brenna.
- There's a new bulletin board, called the IBD Bulletin Board.
- There's a news letter for sufferers of Collagenous Colitis called the
CC Newsletter. It's edited by Judy
Malinowski, and you can write to her for
subscription info and for back issues. It's written entirely by, and for
people with this disease, and it's free, by e-mail only.
- Dal 1 settembre 1996 e' in funzione una mailing list interamente in
Italiano sulle malattie infiammatorie croniche intestinali. La lista e'
interamente in Italiano e las si puo' ricevere richiedendola all'indirizzo
bernardx@libero.it. La lista si
chiama AMICIList ed esce ogni 1-2 settimane.
- Write to admin@natasha.org and ask
for a subscription to a new IBS mail-list run by Omar Hussain. It's been
going for a couple of months now, and provides a forum for those who are
suffering from this hard-to-diagnose condition.
- alt.support.crohns-colitis
newsgroup. This isn't the
most efficient way to read it, by any stretch. But if anyone gets here
who hasn't been reading it, you can get a taste of what goes on there.
Also, there's a link to alt.support.ostomy, now.
- There seem to be a bunch of
IBD chat channels
going these days for
folks who want to chat about living with these conditions.
I confess I know next to nothing about irc (internet relay chat), but
here's some info on
how to get connected to one. (4/2/96)
