Support Organizations
- Sophie Lee has run the IBS Tales
web site for some 10 years now, as a support site for IBS sufferers. The
site contains hundreds of personal stories of living with IBS and reviews of a wide
range of treatments. The aim is to help sufferers feel less alone in their
fight against IBS and find solidarity and support.
- The Irish Society for Colitis &
Crohn's Disease (ISCC) was founded in 1984 by a group of sufferers and
their families. They organize public meetings throughout the country at
which lectures are given by doctors, gastroenterologists, surgeons and
dieticians.
- MDJunction's Crohn's
Disease support group is another online group, one of many for various
diseases at MDJunction.com.
- The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of
America is well known for their support for research and for people
with these diseases. They have their own web site now, and it looks great.
They have a forum where you can ask specific questions of their panel of
doctors, weekly feature articles focusing on issues of living with
inflammatory
bowel diseases, as either a patient or a caregiver, and news updates.

- Advocacy for Patients
with Chronic Illness, Inc. is a new not-for-profit organization where
you can get free information, advice, and advocacy services from attorneys
trained to help you in areas like: getting your own medical
records; getting and keeping health insurance; getting private and Social
Security disability income; asserting your rights under the Americans with
Disabilities Act or the Family and Medical Leave Act; accomodations for
students, and lots more.
- The World's biggest
Website for Gay Ostomates based in Manchester in
the UK with news, letters, help and information and you can register
free to email or meet other 'mates' in America, Canada, Europe, Australia
in fact it seems there are gay ostomists everywhere!
- The Quality Life Association is
a non-profit nationwide association aimed at meeting the special needs of
the continent ostomate and to educate others in the latest advances in
ostomy options.
- The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of
Canada, has a web site, in French and English, of course. Their Mission
Statement is succinct: Find the cure. (1/9/96)
- The IBS Self Help Group aims to provide support for people with IBS,
make themselves more visible to the medical establishment, and encourage
both medical and pharmaceutical research to make their lives easier.
- The United Kingdom Adhesion
Society (UK-AS) is a National educational
non-profit organisation representing men women and children who live each
day with a debilitating condition called ARD (Adhesions and their Related
Disorders).ÊAdhesions are more prevalent than most people
realiseaffecting 1/3 of the UK population (Ellis) although they are still
not clearly recognised nor understood and for those suffering, it is often
a lonely existence, confused, frustrated, in chronic pain and receiving
little or no answers from the medical profession or understanding from
family or friends.
- New Zealand's Crohn's & Colitis Support
Group, Inc. has its own web page now. They're a voluntary, non-profit
organization. They provide support, advice, and information to interested
individuals and patients with these diseases. They also provide
educational materials to medical professionals and organisations within
New Zealand.
- And then there's the National
Association for Colitis and Crohns in Great Britain, who now have
their own web site.
- The Swiss Association of Crohn's
Disease/Ulcerative Colitis has a new web page at
www.smccv.ch.
- There is a homepage by the
Associação Brasileira
de Colite Ulcerativa e Doença
de Crohn (ABCD) -
a non profit organization - all in Portuguese.

organization dedicated to assisting all persons facing life with
gastro-intestinal or urinary diversions.
- The Evansville Chapter of
